Desert Birth
The desert’s heart reached out to me
I listened
Spun into a deep mirage of languid power
Shimmering waves
Penetrating, cellular embrace
Seventeen years
Yearning in unspoken passage
A silent partner
Breath beside breath
Dance beside dance
The desert song dreamed as I dreamed
Between moments
I was almost the rock
Almost the sky
Almost the searing heat of possibility
Form within form
Between moments
I knew without knowing
To each thing there is a time
That is what my heart whispered
Gently now and gently always
I am your song
Your desert mind
And then, unannounced
In one simple knowing
Time within time
Heart within heart
You sang to me
And the desert bloomed
I became the vastness of the sky
I became the body of the earth
And I smiled,
Rejoicing my desert birth
